  7. DESCRIPTION
  8. ===========
  9. TrayDay - date, calendar and counter utility for the Windows 95 or NT 4
  10. tray.
  11.  
  12. TrayDay places an icon showing the date (day of the month) in the 
  13. system tray (the part of the taskbar which includes the clock). The 
  14. icon resembles a page of a "tear-off" calendar.
  15.  
  16. You can therefore see the date at a glance - often quicker and easier 
  17. than resting your mouse over the clock, searching for an "Insert Date" 
  18. menu, or having to reach for your diary. Move the mouse over the icon 
  19. and the day of the week will appear.
  20.  
  21. Left-click the icon and a pop-up menu appears showing the date in
  22. various formats - including up to ten user defined formats. Click one
  23. and it will automatically be inserted into your application (or copied
  24. to the clipboard, depending on the option checked in the right-click
  25. menu). You can select your favorite date format to be available by
  26. double-clicking the TrayDay icon.
  27.  
  28. The user formats can include the date, time, and counters -
  29. particularly useful for date-stamping messages or files.
  30.  
  31. From version 6.1 TrayDay also has a calendar option; you can
  32. choose to have the new monthly calendar "on top" all the time for quick
  33. reference. Navigate months and years using the mouse or keyboard - or
  34. the Microsoft IntelliMouse« wheel - and copy any date to the clipboard
  35. in the format of your choice. The calendar shows Sunday as first day
  36. of the week, but this can be changed to Monday in the Advanced options
  37. dialog. Version 6.1c added the option to have Saturdays or Sundays (or
  38. both) displayed in red on the calendar.

  40. To display the calendar, left-click the TrayDay icon and select Show
  41. Calendar. Or start TrayDay with "/c" in the command line. Note that
  42. TrayDay remembers the window position and whether the calendar is
  43. displayed from one session to the next.
  44.  
  45. When the calendar is displayed, an extra icon, which looks like a small
  46. calendar, appears in the tray. If the calendar has been lost behind
  47. other windows, click this icon to bring it back to the top. This icon
  48. is not displayed (because not necessary) if "on top" is selected.

  50. To move from month to month or year to year refer to the following
  51. list. Note that the calendar needs to be the active window if the
  52. keyboard or IntelliMouse« wheel is to be used.

  54.   Clicking [<], pressing left cursor key, or rolling the IntelliMouse
  55.   wheel away from you, moves back a month.
  56.  
  57.   Clicking [<<], pressing up cursor key or "Page Up", or rolling the
  58.   IntelliMouse wheel away from you with Ctrl key down, moves back a
  59.   year.

  61.   Clicking [ò], pressing "Home" key, or clicking the IntelliMouse wheel
  62.   with the mouse pointer over the calendar, goes to the current month.

  64.   Clicking [>>], pressing down cursor key or "Page Down", or rolling
  65.   the IntelliMouse wheel towards you with Ctrl key down, moves forward
  66.   a year.

  68.   Clicking [>], pressing right cursor key, or rolling the IntelliMouse
  69.   wheel towards you, moves forwards a month.

  71.   Clicking [T], pressing "t", or selecting appropriate menu items
  72.   switches "on top" on or off.

  74. For fastest navigation, press and hold the up/down cursor key or "Page
  75. Up/Down" to move quickly through the years.
  76.  
  77. To close the calendar (without exiting from TrayDay) click the close
  78. button on the title bar, press "Esc" when the calendar is the active
  79. window, or select Hide calendar from the TrayDay left-click menu or
  80. calendar right-click menu.

  82. The TrayDay right-click menu shows the various items used to configure
  83. TrayDay, and Exit. Selecting Options... brings up a dialog box which
  84. lets you choose different tray icons, define user formats, etc.

  86. From there click Advanced... to bring up advanced options; these
  87. include setting the first day of the week to Sunday or Monday for the
  88. calendar, selecting what will be displayed on the tooltip which appears
  89. when the mouse cursor is moved over the TrayDay icon - and whether to
  90. reset any counters at midnight and startup.
  91.  
  92. You can also select from the right-click menu the action to be carried
  93. out when a date is selected on the left-click menu - the current action
  94. is marked with a tick. The three possibilities are: Copy - the date
  95. will be copied to the clipboard. Insert - the text will be inserted at
  96. the insertion point of your active or foreground window by simulating
  97. keyboard input. And Paste - the text will be copied to the clipboard
  98. AND automatically pasted in at the insertion point. [Note that if
  99. Insert is selected but the date includes character(s) which cannot be
  100. typed by a single combination of keystrokes, the Paste action will
  101. occur automatically.]

  103. By placing a shortcut to TrayDay.exe in your startup folder, you can
  104. have the date always available.

  106. See Help (run TrayDay, right-click the icon in the tray and select
  107. "Help...") for detailed instructions. Also see context-sensitive help
  108. in the Options dialog box - click [?] on the title bar, then the area
  109. of the box you require help for.

  114. LIMITATIONS
  115. ===========
  116. Inserting or pasting text to an MS-DOS window is not supported.
  117.  
  118. Inserting or pasting text to a combo-box (edit control with a down
  119. arrow at the right to open a list) may not produce the required result.

  130. TrayDay requires Windows 95, Windows NT4 or later, and needs 250kb of
  131. space on your hard drive.
  132.  
  133. Extract the files from the TrayDay zip file to a (temporary) folder,
  134. and run SetupTD.exe. During the install process you can choose to have
  135. TrayDay added to your list of programs which start every time Windows
  136. starts.

  138. To uninstall, select TrayDay from Add-Remove Programs in Windows
  139. control panel.

  141. Note that from v6.14, the TrayDay setup program SetupTD.exe is
  142. digitally "signed" by MJMSoft Design Ltd., using public key
  143. cryptography. This can be confirmed with the SafenSigned Verifier -
  144. available from http://www.securisys.com/ - and ensures that the file is
  145. authentic and has not been modified or tampered with in the
  146. distribution channel. Our signature ID is:

  149. TO REGISTER
  150. ===========
  151. TrayDay is a shareware program. When first run the welcome box
  152. displays: "Evaluation Version"; after 28 days it automatically becomes
  153. the "Unregistered Version". The only change to the program's function
  154. at that point is that the welcome box which appears at startup may also
  155. appear at other times. If you wish to continue using TrayDay after 28
  156. days, you should register. You can convert to the Registered Version at
  157. any time by entering the registration number you will be given by mail
  158. or e-mail.

  161. ╖ The 'Shift icon' functions are enabled.
  162. ╖ The welcome box which appears at startup (and more often after 28
  163.   days) can be turned off.

  167. Registration covers this and any future version of TrayDay. Note that
  168. one registered copy of TrayDay may be used by a single person who uses

  234.     Many users have asked for an easy way of checking the day /
  235.     week of the year of the current date; these can now be shown
  236.     (by going to Advanced options) in the tooltip which appears
  237.     when you move the mouse over the TrayDay icon. They can also be
  238.     used in a user date format with the letters 'a' for day of year
  239.     and 'w' for week of year.
  240.     Option *not* to have any counters reset at midnight and startup
  241.     added. This has been included in advanced options, and means
  242.     that counter values can be preserved from one session to the
  243.     next.
  244. 6.1a    Bug (new in 6.1) affecting regular shifting of the icon fixed.
  245. 6.1b    On the calendar, some non-English language users had day
  246.     letters and months appear in English. Now fixed, so that they
  247.     are displayed in the user's own language.
  248.     Fix of bug which meant that the calendar displayed dates
  249.     incorrectly from the day of change to daylight savings, to the
  250.     end of the month in which it occurred. Although effectively
  251.     fixed in this version, the bug was not actually noted until
  252.     after this release.
  253. 6.1c    Option added to have Saturdays or Sundays (or both) displayed
  254.     in red on the calendar.
  255.     Minor "cosmetic" improvements to the tear-off-page style icons
  256.     for dates 20 and 22 to 30. In previous versions the first digit
  257.     touched the left border - now moved slightly right.
