TrayDay v6.14, for Windows 95, NT4 or later
(c) MJMSoft Design Limited, 1996-1998
(see end of this readme.txt for version history)
DESCRIPTION
===========
TrayDay - date, calendar and counter utility for the Windows 95 or NT 4
tray.
TrayDay places an icon showing the date (day of the month) in the
system tray (the part of the taskbar which includes the clock). The
icon resembles a page of a "tear-off" calendar.
You can therefore see the date at a glance - often quicker and easier
than resting your mouse over the clock, searching for an "Insert Date"
menu, or having to reach for your diary. Move the mouse over the icon
and the day of the week will appear.
Left-click the icon and a pop-up menu appears showing the date in
various formats - including up to ten user defined formats. Click one
and it will automatically be inserted into your application (or copied
to the clipboard, depending on the option checked in the right-click
menu). You can select your favorite date format to be available by
double-clicking the TrayDay icon.
The user formats can include the date, time, and counters -
particularly useful for date-stamping messages or files.
From version 6.1 TrayDay also has a calendar option; you can
choose to have the new monthly calendar "on top" all the time for quick
reference. Navigate months and years using the mouse or keyboard - or
the Microsoft IntelliMouse« wheel - and copy any date to the clipboard
in the format of your choice. The calendar shows Sunday as first day
of the week, but this can be changed to Monday in the Advanced options
dialog. Version 6.1c added the option to have Saturdays or Sundays (or
both) displayed in red on the calendar.
To display the calendar, left-click the TrayDay icon and select Show
Calendar. Or start TrayDay with "/c" in the command line. Note that
TrayDay remembers the window position and whether the calendar is
displayed from one session to the next.
When the calendar is displayed, an extra icon, which looks like a small
calendar, appears in the tray. If the calendar has been lost behind
other windows, click this icon to bring it back to the top. This icon
is not displayed (because not necessary) if "on top" is selected.
To move from month to month or year to year refer to the following
list. Note that the calendar needs to be the active window if the
keyboard or IntelliMouse« wheel is to be used.
Clicking [<], pressing left cursor key, or rolling the IntelliMouse
wheel away from you, moves back a month.
Clicking [<<], pressing up cursor key or "Page Up", or rolling the
IntelliMouse wheel away from you with Ctrl key down, moves back a
year.
Clicking [ò], pressing "Home" key, or clicking the IntelliMouse wheel
with the mouse pointer over the calendar, goes to the current month.
Clicking [>>], pressing down cursor key or "Page Down", or rolling
the IntelliMouse wheel towards you with Ctrl key down, moves forward
a year.
Clicking [>], pressing right cursor key, or rolling the IntelliMouse
wheel towards you, moves forwards a month.
Clicking [T], pressing "t", or selecting appropriate menu items
switches "on top" on or off.
For fastest navigation, press and hold the up/down cursor key or "Page
Up/Down" to move quickly through the years.
To close the calendar (without exiting from TrayDay) click the close
button on the title bar, press "Esc" when the calendar is the active
window, or select Hide calendar from the TrayDay left-click menu or
calendar right-click menu.
The TrayDay right-click menu shows the various items used to configure
TrayDay, and Exit. Selecting Options... brings up a dialog box which
lets you choose different tray icons, define user formats, etc.
From there click Advanced... to bring up advanced options; these
include setting the first day of the week to Sunday or Monday for the
calendar, selecting what will be displayed on the tooltip which appears
when the mouse cursor is moved over the TrayDay icon - and whether to
reset any counters at midnight and startup.
You can also select from the right-click menu the action to be carried
out when a date is selected on the left-click menu - the current action
is marked with a tick. The three possibilities are: Copy - the date
will be copied to the clipboard. Insert - the text will be inserted at
the insertion point of your active or foreground window by simulating
keyboard input. And Paste - the text will be copied to the clipboard
AND automatically pasted in at the insertion point. [Note that if
Insert is selected but the date includes character(s) which cannot be
typed by a single combination of keystrokes, the Paste action will
occur automatically.]
By placing a shortcut to TrayDay.exe in your startup folder, you can
have the date always available.
See Help (run TrayDay, right-click the icon in the tray and select
"Help...") for detailed instructions. Also see context-sensitive help
in the Options dialog box - click [?] on the title bar, then the area
of the box you require help for.
*** When a date is being inserted (typed) into an application, you can stop it by clicking the TrayDay icon. ***

TO REGISTER
===========
TrayDay is a shareware program. When first run the welcome box

days, you should register. You can convert to the Registered Version at
any time by entering the registration number you will be given by mail
or e-mail.
Benefits of registering are:
╖ The 'Shift icon' functions are enabled.

days) can be turned off.
╖ A sincere "Thank you" for supporting our efforts to develop quality
software and offer it at a reasonable price.
Registration covers this and any future version of TrayDay. Note that
one registered copy of TrayDay may be used by a single person who uses
the software personally on one or more computers. Site licenses are
available, as well as quantity discounts.
A single user license is 15 US dollars or 10 GB pounds (these prices
guaranteed to end of December 1998). Multi-user dscounts are
available. Once you have installed TrayDay, see the file "order.txt"

VERSION HISTORY
===============
5.0 Added choice of date icons
5.0a Corrected a problem some users (with 256 color display or less)
experienced with the color of the help box
5.0b Enhanced non-English language support
5.1 Changed the way insert date works: from copying to and pasting
from the clipboard, to simulating keyboard input (applies only
to single byte character set languages). This means that the
user's clipboard data is preserved, and insert date now
functions in dialog boxes and wherever keyboard input might be
expected.
Added choice of delay for "Shift Icon After Startup"; some
users had reported that 1 minute was not long enough.
Enhanced right-click menu and Options dialog box.
Added counter, time, new line and tab options to user format.
Added combo box to give recently used user formats.
Altered Options Help box to reflect these changes.
6.0 Menu structure changed to give new left-click menu and make
insertion of the date easier.
Regular shifting of the TrayDay icon to the clock added, as
requested by many users.
New welcome box - removable on registration.
Gray icons changed to match TrayText; transparent icons changed
to give numbers only, per user feedback.
Insertion ("typing") of date speeded up.
Paste option added as an alternative to inserting (inserts by
copying to clipboard then automatically pasting - quicker!)
6.1 Calendar feature added.
Advanced options dialog added.
Many users have asked for an easy way of checking the day /
week of the year of the current date; these can now be shown
(by going to Advanced options) in the tooltip which appears
when you move the mouse over the TrayDay icon. They can also be
used in a user date format with the letters 'a' for day of year
and 'w' for week of year.
Option *not* to have any counters reset at midnight and startup
added. This has been included in advanced options, and means
that counter values can be preserved from one session to the
next.
6.1a Bug (new in 6.1) affecting regular shifting of the icon fixed.
6.1b On the calendar, some non-English language users had day
letters and months appear in English. Now fixed, so that they
are displayed in the user's own language.
Fix of bug which meant that the calendar displayed dates
incorrectly from the day of change to daylight savings, to the
end of the month in which it occurred. Although effectively
fixed in this version, the bug was not actually noted until
after this release.
6.1c Option added to have Saturdays or Sundays (or both) displayed
in red on the calendar.
Minor "cosmetic" improvements to the tear-off-page style icons
for dates 20 and 22 to 30. In previous versions the first digit
touched the left border - now moved slightly right.
6.14 Maintenance update.
